An agenda and meeting materials are now available for the Revenue Interim Committee’s meeting on September 23 and 24. The meeting will be held in Room 102 of the State Capitol in Helena and on Zoom, starting at 10 a.m. on the 23rd and 8 a.m. on the 24th.

The committee will spend the first day of the meeting on the two studies assigned to the committee. The HJ 36 residential property tax study agenda items will focus on providing the committee with an overview of the property tax system, and will include presentations from the Department of Revenue on property valuation.

For the HJ 6 study of the coal severance tax trust fund, the committee will receive an overview of the coal severance tax and distribution of coal severance tax revenue. There will also be two panel discussions: one with coal industry representatives discussing coal extraction and the other focusing on coal severance tax revenue forecasts.

On September 24, the committee will hear agency updates from the Montana Tax Appeal Board and the Department of Revenue. The committee will also receive information on the tax credit review process and will discuss whether to revise that process.

Members of the public may attend and offer comment in person or may offer public comment remotely via Zoom. They may also submit written public comment in advance of the meeting. The links for submitting written public comment and for signing up to testify remotely are available on the committee’s website at https://leg.mt.gov/committees/interim/ric/, along with other meeting materials.
