Two out every three fatal car crashes on Highway 212 in southeastern Montana since 2008 occurred on a stretch of highway that runs through the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservations, according to an analysis by the Legislative Services Division.

Lawmakers are examining crash data and enforcement authority on the 166-mile portion of the highway between Interstate 90 and the Wyoming border.  Sixty-three percent of the 49 fatal crashes on that road since 2008 happened on the 33-mile portion that runs through the reservations.

The Transportation Interim Committee will discuss the issue May 19 and hear from state and national experts on highway safety and enforcement, Additional information can be found on the Committee’s website.
