As the number of electric vehicles in Montana increases, the Transportation Interim Committee is working on legislation to replace lost gas tax revenues. As part of their EV study, the legislators got behind the wheels of several electric vehicles at the July meeting. Members drove several EVs, including the F150 Lighting, Ford Mustang Mach E, Chevy Bolt, and Tesla Model Y.

The Transportation Committee is looking at EV legislation, including increasing EV registration, adding a per-kilowatt-hour tax to public charging stations, and road use charges. During the July 7th meeting, the Committee considered two pieces of draft legislation. Draft legislation and meeting times can be found on the Committee’s website.
