The Montana Legislative Consumer Committee recently appointed Jason Brown as Consumer Counsel.

The Consumer Counsel represents Montana public utility and transportation consumers before the Public Service Commission, state and federal courts, and administrative agencies in matters concerning public utility regulation. The Office of Consumer Counsel is established in the Montana Constitution to advocate on behalf of the interests of consumers of regulated utilities before the Montana Public Service Commission and in select matters under the jurisdiction of federal agencies and state and federal courts.

Brown, selected unanimously by the bipartisan committee, replaces Bob Nelson who served in the post since 1988 until his retirement earlier this year.

“I really appreciate the committee’s commitment to consumer advocacy in Montana and am honored to be appointed Consumer Counsel,” Brown said. “I feel fortunate to work with others dedicated to the goal of safe and reliable utility service at just and reasonable rates, and I look forward to continuing the work we do on behalf of the consuming public.”
